Science Fair

This year the year 7/8 side of Muritai school had a science fair. Everyone had to choose a topic that interested them, so I decided to ask what bread grow mould on it fastest. I got three pieces of bread (Homemade, white and wholemeal bread). I found out that homemade bread grows mould on it fastest. My science fair was ok but I think it could have been better. This was because I did not plan my experiment well. The way I displayed my science fair board was very good, however the actual work I had put on it was not that good. Although the bread I put out for my experiment did not grow mould, I still found out from my research that homemade bread grows mould the fastest. I really enjoyed making my display for my science board. This science fair has been a good learning experience.

The Events of Parihaka

Parihaka Summary Power Point Presentation

The Events of Parihaka

Parihaka
WALT: Summarise facts and give my opinion

My opinions on the events of Parihaka...Te Whiti and Tohu are inspirational leaders because they showed that violence was not the answer, and that if they hadn't done what they did, things could have been a lot worse. They showed that not even laying a finger on the Europeans they did the right thing. They advocated non-violence because  it wasn't in their natural behavior and they knew that their only place was Parihaka. If they had tried to fight it would only result in their families being killed and also they would probably be kicked out of Parihaka. I think that the actions of the Europeans were very unacceptable, because they signed the Treaty of Waitangi  and acted like they never did sign it, went off raping and killing people. I think their actions were selfish and cruel.

Slash

Biography:
WALT: Write a biography about an inspirational person.

23 July 1965 in Hampstead, London Saul Hudson, better known as Slash, was born. Slash is known to be one of the best guitarist’s that has ever lived. He is about the most famous guitarist in America.

Slash was born in England and stayed there for 5 years with his father. He then moved to Los Angeles, California to live with his mother. In 1972 his brother Ash Hudson was born. Then the following two years past his parents Anthony Hudson and Ola Hudson divorced. Even before then Slash was never really around his parents. His mother was a Costume designer for people like David Bowie and his father designed album covers, so Slash was never really able to be around them. Following from his parents divorce he was described as a problem child. So he went to live with his Grandmother. Then one day... “My big awakening happened when I was 14 when on the radio I heard Aerosmith’s Rocks. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I remember riding back to my Grandma’s house knowing that my life had changed. Now I identified something.” Since Slash knew what he wanted to do he had decided to form a band with his friend Steven Adler. The band never really got around to playing music well, but it meant Slash would have to learn to play an instrument. Steven had already assigned himself as the role of guitarist so Slash decided to take up the bass.

Slash then started to have lessons at school. Slash had already been given a one stringed Flamenco guitar from his grandmother and started straight away. Slash was then further influenced when he saw that his guitar teacher could play things like Brown Sugar by the Rolling stones. However Slash was still only 14 so he was practicing up to 12 hours everyday. Since Slash got so good Steven put himself aside the drums and let Slash take the role of guitarist, so they now only needed a bass player and a vocalist. They then had a reply from Duff McKagen who became the bands bass player. Slash had then left the band as a result of not being able to find a singer, and then Slash, Duff and Steven were the asked by Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin to join the newly formed band, Guns n’ Roses. They started off playing at nightclubs and opening for larger bands. When Guns n’ Roses were doing this was when the were writing their main Songs such as ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Sweet Child o Mine’ and ‘Paradise City.’ They were then signed by Geffen Records, and their album Appetite for Destruction sold twenty eight million copies world wide. From the hard work of creating the guitar music for those songs, Slash has won numerous awards for them.

Slash influences me because he is guitarist that makes music to entertain, show off and inspire. He influences me because he has gone through tough times and carried on. He has had to deal with Axl Rose and leaving the band he was most famous in, and still played amazing music. He has had trouble with alcohol and he had a heart failure. He recovered from it but has stayed sober ever since 2006. He also donates to many charities.

Slash is someone who gets their self up there on stage and does things that makes people happy. Since he knows that millions of people like me respect him so much he still lives right at this very second to enjoy what he does. At the end of the day he supports charities and still performs in a very top notch band (Alter Bridge). This all comes to show if you can play guitar for 32 years that if people look up to him as an inspiration anyone could be the same.
